The Development on the most wonderful exclusive playstation game The Last of Us Online has stopped. Naughty Dog has posted on X stating that they are stopping the development on one of the most anticipated project The Last of Us Online. Naughty Dog would end up using all of its resources in the post launch content for years to come and this would cause an impact on the future single players games to come.
Naughty Dog knew this would upset their loyal fanbase of The Last of Us Community and they provided a context on why they stopped the development of the Online Version.

Naught Dog “The multiplayer team has been in pre-production with this game since we were working on The Last of Us Part II – crafting an experience we felt was unique and had tremendous potential,” explained Naughty Dog. “As the multiplayer team iterated on their concept for The Last of Us Online during this time, their vision crystalized, the gameplay got more refined and satisfying, and we were enthusiastic about the direction in which we were headed.”
“In ramping up to full production, the massive scope of our ambition became clear. To release and support The Last of Us Online we’d have to put all our studio resources behind supporting post launch content for years to come, severely impacting development on future single-player games. So, we had two paths in front of us: become a solely live service games studio or continue to focus on single-player narrative games that have defined Naughty Dog’s heritage.” However, Naughty Dog confirmedthey have multiple projects they are looking forward to releasing in the future but they haven't revealed any names yet. The Last of Us 2 - Remastered is set to release on January 19, 2024 for the Next Gen Console and Recently Naughty Dog went through a round of Layoffs back in October 2023. Therefore, They decided to put the project on hold and way back in May 2023 it also had an internal review from Bungie. Naughty Dog is now focussing on single player games and they would like to continue their legacy as the first party studios for Playstation.
